Acid reflux is a condition that causes serious pain, interrupts sleep, and stops you from enjoying certain foods. Anyone with this condition will seek relief through acid reflux medication or even natural remedies.
Today we will look at the medications used to treat heartburn and we will take a look at some natural remedies.
Acid Reflux Medications
There are 4 different types of medications for acid reflux. Here is a breakdown of the 4 types of medications.
Antacids: These can be had in many different forms. You can find them in tablets, chewing gum, and liquids. This is a common treatment, but hardly perfect. They get rid of the acid temporarily.
H2-receptor: This medication does the opposite of what antacids do. H2 pretends to produce more acid. This is because your stomach needs acid in order to process foods. This has a much longer term effect then many other treatments. This medication lasts for about 12 hours.
Alginates: This one is very simple. Alginates reduce gastric acid. This treatment is not common.
PPI: This is a fairly interesting medication. What PPI does is act as an obstacle in the stomachs cells. The idea is for this obstacle to stop some of the stomach acid.
None of these medications offer any kind of permanent relief. These medications will only work if you use them all the time.
Natural Remedies For Acid Reflux
Natural remedies are the best way to treat acid reflux. They can be easily taken everyday and offer much better relief over all. However, you may still have to experiment with different remedies in order to find one that works for your acid reflux condition.
Here are a few to get your started.
Vinegar: This is the most popular remedy that people use. Vinegar will only help if your acid reflux is caused by your stomach not producing enough acid fast enough. All you need is one tablespoon to get rid of heartburn.
A few almonds before you eat can help prevent acid reflux. Almonds are very good for you anyways.
Pineapple: Eating foods with lots of enzymes is the perfect diet. Pineapple is one of those foods that contains lots of enzymes to fight off acid reflux. Of course pineapple may also upset some peoples stomach.
Yogurt: Yogurt has some very soothing bacteria in it for your stomach. Many people find that it helps with acid reflux or after eating spicy foods.
